How to store and hand wash pleated blinds?
We recommend that you always store pleated products on a hanger so that the pleats do not break.
The washing procedure is as follows. If you have a stain or local dirt on your pleated product, spray the stain remover on the area. Leave it to work for a while and then gently scrub the area with a brush, such as an old toothbrush.
Then place the pleated product in a bathtub or bucket and fill with warm water. Add gel detergent and ecological fabric softener, which helps reduce static electricity. At JANKIV, we use Jeleň brand products, namely washing gel with fabric softener and stain remover. Do not use powder detergent, as it does not dissolve sufficiently in water and may leave marks.
Add enough water to completely submerge the product. Leave it for about an hour. Then rinse it, shake it gently and rub it. Drain the water and add new clean water. Rinse the product at least twice in clean water.
Then hang it on a hanger or, in the case of a skirt, attach it to a clothespin hanger by the elastic and hang it on the balcony, for example, so that it can drip and dry naturally. You can also gently blow the product with a hair dryer with cold air. It is also possible to wring it out slightly, but the water will drain naturally and the pleated folds will close nicely.
How to travel with plissé?
You can travel with a manual pleated blind without any problems. Depending on the means of transport, there are a few rules to follow.
If you are traveling by car, simply hang the pleated blind on a hanger, put it in a bag and hang or place it in the car. It is important that the pleated blind hangs and is not folded anywhere or thrown with other things.
If you are traveling by other means of transport and need to pack the pleated sheet in your suitcase, we recommend that you do not fold it perpendicular to the folds, but roll it up and place it around the circumference of the suitcase. If you have a smaller suitcase and are traveling on a shorter route, you can also fold it and place it on top of the suitcase so that you do not put other things on it and do not put pressure on it and compress the pleats.
We recommend that you remove the pleated blind immediately upon arrival and hang it on a hanger. Gravity will allow it to return to its original shape. We believe that you will be able to travel with the pleated blind without any problems and that you will enjoy admiring glances in it.
What do you recommend I buy first from your creations when I'm just starting out with plissé?
As the first piece from our collection, we recommend the black ICONIC pleated skirt. It is a complete foundation of a woman's wardrobe that you can wear almost anywhere. It rightfully becomes a pillar of the wardrobe that a woman reaches for whenever she wants to dress beautifully and elegantly. You can wear it during the day or on social occasions.
Is manual pleating also suitable for fuller figures?
A properly designed and hand-made pleated skirt does not make the figure wider. On the contrary, it can optically lengthen and slim it.
The prejudice that pleats widen the figure is mainly based on ready-made skirts, which are sewn to quantity without regard to individual body measurements. They contain little fabric and are straight at the waist, which unnecessarily accentuates and widens the figure. This is mainly due to the fact that women have a larger waist circumference than their waist, and the pleats open up on the hips and buttocks.
When making our skirts, we always start from the circumference of the seat and adjust the cut accordingly so that the skirt does not expand the figure, but rather beautifully follows it. The pleats do not open at the buttocks and the silhouette remains harmonious.
Vertical lines of pleats work with the silhouette naturally and elegantly. The cut, density of pleats and the placement of the waist are important. We design each model to support the female silhouette, not distort it.
If you are still concerned, we would be happy to welcome you to a fitting in our showroom in Košice, where you will see how beautiful skirts can look on the figure. We believe that you would love hand-pleated skirts.
Why are all skirts made of 100% polyester?
Almost any material can be pleated, but not all materials hold their shape for a long time. In our creations, we only use materials that we test ourselves for the stability of pleating.
These are mostly fabrics whose main or one of the main components is synthetic fiber. We choose materials with a beautiful structure that are pleasant to wear and touch. It is on these materials that the pleats are durable and the folds are not damaged after washing or dry cleaning.
Unfortunately, pleating is not durable on natural materials, as they are prone to wrinkling. After washing, the pleating will fall apart. That is why in our creations we work mainly with 100 percent polyester, on which we can guarantee the stability and durability of the pleats.
You can wear, maintain, sit in and hand wash our pleated skirts in lukewarm water without any problems without losing the sharpness of the pleating. However, if you don't like the artificial material on your body, we can add a natural petticoat to your skirt. Don't hesitate to contact us.
My figure has changed and the skirt no longer fits like it used to. Is it possible to adjust it?
If the waist of the skirt doesn't fit you, whether it's too tight or too loose, we'll be happy to adjust it to your current measurements. Contact us and we'll arrange for a courier to pick it up. Once the skirt is delivered to us, we'll adjust it and send it back.
We care that you can wear your piece at any time of your life and that it serves you perfectly. The belt adjustment service is charged at 40 euros.
What should I do if the product gives me an electric shock?
One option is to use hairspray. Spray it on the inside of your clothing and nylons. Hairspray helps tame frizz as well as unruly hair.
Another option is to apply a cream. Apply it to your hands and then to your thighs, legs, or arms where the material touches your skin. You can also apply the cream gently to nylons.
An antistatic spray, such as Antistat or Antistatik, which you can buy online, can also help. It is applied from the wrong side of the garment or directly to the nylons. When washing again, we recommend adding an ecological fabric softener, which significantly reduces static electricity.
What skirt length looks best on your figure?
A longer pleated skirt looks more graceful on the figure, highlights the beauty of the pleating and harmonizes the silhouette. It optically lengthens the figure and slims it.
You can combine it with pumps, sneakers and boots and you will always look elegant and feminine. You can wear it to social events and for everyday wear. If the length does not suit you after trying it on, we can adjust it later.
Why is the waist of skirts made with elastic?
Skirts with a tight waist only fit a specific dress size. If a woman has a larger difference between her waist and hips, the pleats open up at the buttocks and make the figure appear wider. If the skirt does not fit tightly at the waist, the pleating twists and distorts the silhouette.
The elastic skirt provides maximum comfort, durability and a perfect fit. The elastic will adapt to the body throughout the day, whether you are hungry or full. The skirt does not fall, does not slide and beautifully shapes the figure.
We use wide and flexible high-quality elastic bands made in the Czech Republic that do not cut, twist or stretch. Thanks to their variability, the skirt can be worn even after changing the garment size.
At JANKIV, we care about you being able to wear your skirt at any time in your life, whether you lose weight, gain weight, are pregnant or a mother. You can lend it to a friend and over time your daughter will easily inherit it.
How do you approach sustainability?
Each model is hand-pleated and manufactured in our studio. We work with local companies, which gives us an overview of the entire production process and ensures fair working conditions.
We first test all fabrics and models for pleating stability to ensure they will serve you for many years before they are put into production.
JANKIV models are based on the principles of slow fashion and are designed to be wearable at any time of life. We prioritize quality over quantity, which is why each piece is sewn to order and can be personalized by color, material or length.
We actively work to reduce waste and utilize residual materials through further creation and additions. Our goal is to achieve zero-waste production in the future.
